Rutherford Proposes Tobacco 21

The borough of Rutherford has proposed raising the age of sale of tobacco products to 21. State law sets the minimum age of sale at 19. Rutherford is thus following many other New Jersey municipalities in the movement towards tobacco 21.
Hackensack resident James Erwin, who petitioned for tobacco 21 in April and whose goal is to prevent teen nicotine addiction and cancer risk, thanked the council. Rutherford Councilman Jack Manzo also expressed support of the new ordinance.
