Millville’s public housing going smokefree (NJ.com, Don E. woods)

On June 23, the Millville Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to ban smoking in 498 public housing units operated by the Millville Housing Authority (MHA). Betsy Loyde, Director of Operations at MHA, noted that residents and the US Department of Housing and Development encouraged this new ban. According to the executive director, Dice, “the ban on smoking will help the MHA with insurance costs, as well as the cost to turn over the property when a tenant leaves”. “If someone has been a heavy smoker, it is an extra cost to clean or paint over the places affected by nicotine,” he said. The ban includes penalties for smoking on the properties.
