On January 1, 2015, Suffolk County’s law took effect that bans the sale tobacco products, herbal cigarettes, electronic smoking devices and liquid nicotine, rolling paper and pipes to person under age 21. The sale of such products cannot be self-service: the products are required to be displayed behind the counter and only accessible to employees, except in tobacco businesses and places where one must be 21 years of age to enter.
The law is #11-2014 (introductory resolution #1039-2014, Resolution #185-2014) and was voted adopted on March 18, 2014 and approved on April 14, 2014.
The County has a website for merchant education that includes merchant education classes, and a sign that merchants can download and post in their establishments to inform the public of the new law.
