Rhode Island’s Senate passed a bill 35-0 that allows for police officers to provide a verbal warning to an individual who is smoking in a vehicle containing a restrained child. Police can notify the smoker about the dangers of smoking with the child in the car, but they cannot stop or search a motor vehicle based solely on the individual’s decision to smoke with a child in the car. GASP is referenced in the March 13, 2104 Rhode Island General Assembly’s press release. Read the March 17, 2014 news article at The Patch (Rhode Island)
