The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development passed a new nationwide no-smoking policy, which includes the Harrison Housing Authority. This policy will make it much more difficult for residents to smoke publicly and get away with it. The policy includes all lit tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, in all indoor areas and outdoors within 25 of the buildings. Electronic cigarettes are not prohibited under this new policy, but instead the discretion is left to local housing authorities. This policy aims to enhance the health and safety of all the residents, as well as to help lower maintenance costs of these facilities.
