Hookah health warning: Researchers say fumes contain killer chemical benzene

The Daily Mail has reported on a new study concerning hookah use. The San Diego State University study which was published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, calls for better education on the use of hookahs. The researches noted that high exposure to toxic benzene by hookah users and nonsmoking bystanders in a hookah lounge result from burning the charcoal. A study by researchers affiliated with New York University’s Center for Drug Use and HIV Research (CDUHR), in the August 2014 edition of Pediatrics identifies found that one out of five teens use hookah.
