HBCU Push for Smoke Free Campuses (The Louisiana Weekly, Frederick H. Lowe)

On October 12, 2015, The Louisiana Weekly reported that thirty-three (33) of the nation’s Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) announced they have started a Tobacco-Free HBCU Campus Initiative. This is led by former U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin as well as in collaboration with Truth Initiative.
Shaw University hosted the Truth Initiative and the 33 HBCUs. Each college is to develop its own anti-smoking campaign.
Participating in the smoke-out are: Alcorn State University, Arkansas Baptist College, Benedict College, Bluefield State, Bowie State University, Cheyney University,Coahoma Community College, Fisk University, Florida A&M University, Florida Memorial University, Hinds Community College, Howard University, Jackson State University, Jarvis Christian College, Lincoln University, Meharry Medical College, Mississippi Valley State University, Morris College, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T University, Prairie View A&M University, Rust College, Southwestern Christian College, Spelman College, Shaw University, St. Augustine’s University, Shorter College, Talladega College, Tennessee State University, Texas College, Tyler, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and the University of the District of Columbia.
