Fort Lee bans smoking in outdoor restaurants and cafes (The Bergen Record, Reporter Lihn Tat)

The Bergen Record reports on Fort Lee’s most recent smokefree ordinance which prohibits smoking in outdoor restaurants and cafes. The ordinance makes Fort Lee the first municipality in Bergen County to do so.
New Jersey law already prohibits outdoor secondhand smoke from wafting into indoor public places or work settings, according to one leading anti-tobacco advocate. But local municipalities can adopt their own ordinances, which also make it easier to enforce the law.
Karen Blumenfeld, Executive Director of Global Advisors on Smokefree Policy is featured in the article saying “It’s an excellent means of educating the public, as well as the merchants, as to what the current state laws are.”
