Study shows Smokefree Apartment Policies Beneficial to Owners and Residents (MedicalXpress.com, South Dakota State University)

On August 26, 2015, MedicalXpress.com reported on the results of a 2013 survey of 324 multi-unit housing owners and operators in
Aberdeen, South Dakota. South Dakota State University researchers found that 55% of owners and operators had written smokefree policies in their lease agreements. An additional 10% of owners and operators informed tenants verbally that smoking was not permitted inside. Respondents also reported decreased maintenance costs and improved safety and tenant health. It was reported that the results help with encouraging voluntary smokefree policies by apartment owners.
