E-cigarette smolders in airline passenger’s handbag at a U.S. airport (Occupational Health & Safety)

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau issued a warning on August 7 that e-cigarettes in passenger luggage can be a flight safety hazard, citing a recent incident in a U.S. airport.
With that incident, an e-cigarette in the “off” position was discovered smoldering in a passenger’s handbag at a U.S. airport, and had melted several items in the handbag. Since it contains lithium battery, there is a risk of catching fire.
