Franklin Lakes Adopts Smokefree Parks Policy Including E-Cigarettes

NorthJersey.com reports on Franklin Lakes Borough Council’s adoption of a smokefree parks policy. The Borough Council, citing public health risks, unanimously adopted the ordinance banning smoking in those places. Violators of the ban, which includes e-cigarettes, will be subject to a fine of $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second offense and $1,000 for each subsequent offense. The ban which was adopted expands Franklin Lake’s 2007 ordinance which banned smoking on recreational fields, except parking areas.
The ban also prohibits smoking or carrying lighted tobacco within the public areas on certain streets in town, including Arbor Road, Hobar Court and Parsons Pond Road.
