Turkish Parliamentary Health Commission Chairman proposes a bill to shut down hookah cafes (Today’s Zaman)

Currently, cafes where nargile/hookah is smoked are exempt from the country’s indoor smoking ban. Chairman Erdöl announced that he prepared the proposal in conjunction with Health Ministry officials. Read an article from Today’s Zaman. In the article, Chairman Erdöl said “Many people think that nargile is less harmful to the human body than cigarettes, including 62 percent of cigarette smokers. In fact, one session smoking a nargile causes an equal amount of damage to the body as almost three packs of cigarettes. That is why I submitted this proposal.” The bill also proposes anti-smoking warnings on the nargile bowls themselves.
