New Zealand officials hope that by raising taxes, a pledge to reduce the country’s smoking rate from 20% will be significantly reduced by 2025. New Zealand already charges more than 70 percent tax on cigarettes. Additionally, beginning July 2012, all cigarettes will be sold from under the counter so they will not be on display as here in the United States. Read the Times Online news article.
